Juniors (Under 10 to Opens)
Join the Wahroonga Tigers Juniors!
Junior (U10-Opens) players and teams are graded and participate in the Sydney Juniors Rugby Union (SJRU) competition. Grading is important because it means players of similar ability are graded to play against one another maximising safety and enjoyment. Grading takes place in pre-season through a series of internal and external trial games.
Girls and boys can continue to play together in mixed teams without any restrictions in the first three years of the junior competition (U10-U12).
The season usually runs from April to August and is played on a combination of Friday nights and/or Sunday. Training night is dependent on the age group but is either Tuesday or Thursday.
Catering for all abilities
Never played rugby before but keen to try? The beauty of rugby is that it is a sport that truly caters for everyone, no matter your experience or ability. Although grading is necessary, it shouldn’t put anyone off playing rugby for the first time, in fact it means if you are new to rugby then you will be with players who are in a similar position, which really helps build great team spirit.
Every year we get new players join of all different levels of ability join our junior teams and we have experienced coaches who know how to help develop players at all levels.
And there is more!
Junior rugby also has some exciting activities and events, both on and off the field, for players and parents to enjoy:
- SJRU Finals series: if your team does well in the SJRU competition it gets to complete in finals footie.
- Representative Rugby: From U10 players have the opportunity try out for representative rugby. Wahroonga Tigers Rugby comes under the Gordon district and has a proud history of players playing for Gordon.
- Competitions: Travel to events like Coffs Harbour and Canberra, great fun for players and families alike!
